A Day with… Diego Pol!

Cover Article: A Day with... Diego Pol!

The interview with our CEO, that shows us what it means to be him for a day.

R: Reporter D: Diego

R: I don’t know how to start, can you tell me where do we start from?

D: If you have not planned what you want to do during the day, time will pass and you’ll have done little, so you will have the regret of having wasted time. This animates me and helps me to organize: my day, my week, my life; before falling asleep every night, very soon, never after 10 pm, I make up my mind – I reflect – and I set goals for the next day, trying to impose myself and remind me what I will have to do, in what ways and terms. The alarm sounds, but not always, sometimes not because I wake up sooner than when I had planned. Normally between 04.30 and 05.30, I get up, I get ready and I immediately go to the office. I created a space where I’m the only one working, this because nobody asks me questions or stops me during “my moment”; the goal of what I have to do is clear in my head and I do it. I compliment myself when I finish even earlier than expected. Recognizing one’s merits and progresses is as important as underlining errors and shortcomings. Once the scheduled jobs are completed, I normally take a space to read the many emails I receive, too many in some days; this leads me to think about alternative methods so that people don’t write to me so often, in the end they often are words that have little concreteness.

Time is more precious than money. You can make more money, but you can’t have more time.

R: Are there other moments that you would like to describe?

D: my first morning cigarette; yes, I smoke, sometimes too much, this is an important moment every morning. I light it coming out of my small office, I walk back and forth, reaching the end of my driveway, where I see the illuminated sign of the pharmacy of Corbanese. I look at the time (always on the sign), which I need to understand if I am respecting my timetable, the temperature, and after this moment I think about… what awaits me during the day, who I will meet, what I will have to tell. I don’t deny that normally I like to be prepared during the meetings I do; this in order not to waste my time and the time of the other people.

It is not important how busy you are, you have to find time to reflect, think, give and plan.”

R: Does another moment exist?

D: Yes, when I’m in the car; I like to drive, but I’m not able to avoid thoughts when I drive, in the past years it was my space, I used the car so much … Beyond the miles that ran, even my thoughts did it; this thing is remained for me. I do not deny that many entrepreneurial ideas were born together with my friend, the steering wheel, I often confronted him.

Take time to gather the past so that you will be able to learn from your experience and invest it in the future.

R: What happens once this first important daily moment is over?

D: The day really begins; if it was not well planned, it will be useless, or it will be useful to understand why it has been so unproductive … So, as already said, I try to follow a pre-established program; when I am in Italy my focus is different than when I am abroad. Normally, I come here in Masutti Marmi, where I try to bring my positivity, trying to help the staff that works in this company, trying as much as I can to always bring serenity. I believe these two components contribute so much to the success of a company.

If you conclude a sale, you can make a living. If you make an investment in terms of time and excellent services on a client, you can create a fortune.

R: What do you think is the most important thing in your work?

D: I think that everyone who works with me or for me has understood it by now: the attention to detail, I would say the continuous attention to detail. I think that only by doing things well you will succeed in the end; I believe that attention to detail is the decisive basis for the final victory. I realize that sometimes I am also the one who exasperates this concept, I know, but as reiterated, if one is not convinced to do things well and together, you can hardly convey to a customer how much we love our work and how much we try to do it in the best way.

The key factor that will determine your financial future is not the economy; the key factor is your philosophy

(Jim Rohn)

R: Then how do you end the day?

D: With my family, the most beautiful place of my life, I thank my wife and my children for their patience and for the energy they give me every day.
