For Gianni: Difference between Marble & Granite

Cover Image: The Designer Responds - Steel household appliances, what to match with them?

I would love to have a marble kitchen top, I find it much more alive than the other materials. Can the architect give me his opinion? Many people also talk about granite but I don’t even know what it is. Only generic or comparative but very aseptic articles are available online. I wait for your answer. Gianni.

Mr. Gianni, Marble, granites and stones represent something that mother nature has created over millions of years, they are only found in nature and nothing is like them. Every single slab, every single cube is different from one another, this refines the uniqueness and preciousness of the material. They cannot be made with any machine, but only imitated in surface finishes. A purist, a lover of the material, chooses something alive, something that creates emotions, it does not matter if it is partly more delicate than many other synthetic materials that look like it, it does not matter if there are slabs and small blocks in nature … Not like quartz ceramic materials etc., alternative but synthetic. A natural material is a living material. A heart that constantly pulses. These are questions of personal choice and approach to the project, without denigrating all the materials that can constitute an alternative, nowadays technologies have made it possible to create incredible things with synthetic materials, which I would not define aseptic, indeed they have applications where with natural materials you cannot do anything. One does not replace the other, or rather everyone chooses what he likes and what is more appropriate. I hope I make myself clear. Best regards.
