For Amelia: modern kitchen with a touch of color.

Hi! I’m Amelia and I’m writing from Treviso. I have recently purchased a flat, recently renovated, the electrical and plumbing systems have been completely redone in the last two years, the house is very spacious and well divided. It has a big living room-entrance, an eat-in kitchen. And it is about the kitchen that I would like to talk to you! Being a large and almost square space: 4.5m for 5, I have too much choice as regards how to create it! It has a single obstacle (constraint): a one-meter-wide fireplace, 90cm from the ground, positioned right next to the French window that overlooks the terrace. I love the modern style with clean lines with some touch of bright colour, can you recommend me some functional and aesthetically appealing solution? Thank you very much in advance!
Modern style kitchen solution, with a few touches of colour!
Good morning Mrs. Amelia, I state that since I do not have a map of the kitchen, where the French windows and the fireplace are placed, it’s difficult for me to interpret a design solution for her kitchen, but I focus on the style suggestions that you have kindly sent me. From the description, she prefers a modern and linear style, where the lines become important signs but at the same time they disappear compared to a classic and impactful style.
The fireplace: it does not always provide added value!
May I say something about the fireplace, a distinctive element but that in a kitchen environment of that size goes to contaminate a possible intriguing and impressive solution. What I suggest, if it’s possible after the recent restoration, is to eliminate it. The main reasons that reluctantly push me to tell her this are:
- In a kitchen environment like hers 5×4.5 metres, I think it’s very impactful in a modern kitchen solution, moreover positioned suspended from the ground and 1-meter-wide, it prevents me a lot the possibility of furniture insertion, we have to keep in mind that I cannot put them near to the fireplace because the heat becomes a dangerous source for the radiation it has in the objects.
- Secondly, I think it is not necessary to have an alternative heat source in the kitchen, it would be another thing to have it in the living room for both heating and aesthetic reasons.
The colours: decorative elements!
Regarding the touch of colour, I am inclined not to make it in the kitchen, where more or less strong colours can be fashionable and age with time, but I would opt for a solution in the walls, using beautiful wallpapers, there are so many, moreover easy to apply but also to remove, to make the environment always current. Therefore, I consider important a kitchen solution in the neutral colours and tones that last over time, while I would dare a colourful touch on the walls.
